Importance of Biodiversity The Biodiversity Crisis. Biologists estimate that species extinctions are currently – times the normal, or background, rate seen previously in Earth’s history. The current high rates will cause a precipitous decline in the biodiversity of the planet in the next century or two. Biodiversity includes not only the world's species with their unique evolutionary histories, but also genetic variability within and among populations of species and the distribution of species across local habitats, ecosystems, landscapes, and whole continents or oceans. Understanding what constitutes and defines biodiversity is essential for managers and policy-makers who must attempt to.

Biodiversity is the variety of life on Earth at any level of organization, from molecules to ecosystems. Thus, it includes all organisms and their populations, the genetic variation among them, and their complex assemblages into communities and ecosystems (Convention of Biological Diversity ). Conserving Biodiversity presents an agenda for research that can provide information to formulate policy and design conservation programs in the Third World. The book includes discussions of research needs in the biological sciences as well as economics and anthropology, areas of critical importance to conservation and sustainable development.

Addressing food security is a top global priority as illustrated in Goal 2 of achieving “Zero Hunger” of the Sustainable Development seeking to achieve this goal, UN countries recognize the unique role of role of biodiversity in delivering food security, which is a prerequisite for ending hunger. According to UN data, more than million people worldwide still lack regular.   So I am convinced that we should raise the profile of biodiversity in tackling climate change and food insecurity, and that we need more high-level attention to this subject.
